Concept: Volkswagen Taigun

Posted by on Jul 25, 2013

Pictures and a video of Volkswagen’s Taigun concept has been released, which could be produced in 2016.

According to some resources, Taigun may not be sold in the United States because Volkswagen believes Americans are not interested in such compact cars with 3-cylinder gasoline/diesel engines.

Taigun was first shown in October 2012 at the Sao Paolo Motor Show, and one of its most important rivals is the Ford EcoSport once it arrives in 2016. Left-hand Taigun will be produced in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and the right-hand models will be built in Pune, India.

The wheelbase for Taigun has been extended by 2 inches to 97.2 inches. The engines will be mated to a standard manual gearbox or an optional dual-clutch transmission.

Volkswagen also noted that it is planning a natural gas variant.

Plans for a Middle East / GCC launch haven't been announced yet.
