Discover Dubai's post-rainfall challenges, traffic updates, safety tips, and city-wide adaptations to unprecedented weather

After the heaviest rainfall in UAE's history, Dubai's streets are awash with water, challenging the city's routine.

Efforts are underway to restore normalcy, and while staying home is advised, if you must venture out, here's the lowdown.

Waterlogged roads are a common sight across Dubai's bustling avenues, yet attempts persist to keep the traffic flowing.

Taxi services and public buses are up and running, although with anticipated delays as they navigate the wet terrain.

Recent updates from X (formerly Twitter) by the RTA indicate improved traffic conditions on key routes like Airport Road, Al Nahda Street, and the junction of Al Khawaneej Street and Algeria Street.

Access to Sheikh Zayed Road is restored from the World Trade Centre roundabout up to Intersection No. 9, linking with Al Maktoum Airport Street towards Abu Dhabi. However, some lanes may experience delays due to lingering water patches.

These adjustments follow a confirmation from the UAE National Centre for Meteorology about the unprecedented rainfall, marking a historical record.

Convective clouds looming over the UAE pose a significant risk of intense rainfall, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and potential hail. A red warning, the highest on the meteorology centre's scale, underscores the severity.

In response, Dubai's Government has encouraged the private sector to adopt remote working until week's end. Meanwhile, government employees will also work from home unless engaged in relief operations.

Dubai's private educational institutions, including schools, nurseries, and universities, remain shuttered with distance learning facilitated by KHDA.

RTA's dedicated teams are actively tackling the post-storm traffic snarls, striving to reinstate smooth traffic circulation.
