Dubai prepares to welcome autonomous vehicles with new guidelines

In a move to welcome autonomous vehicles to the streets of the UAE, Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) is set to launch the first cyber security standard for autonomous vehicles in the region. The standard will provide guidelines for the security of autonomous vehicles and will be used by different departments of the Dubai Government.
With plans to transform 25% of all transport in Dubai to autonomous modes by 2030, Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) aims to establish policies to safeguard the emirate’s cyberspace as the safest city electronically. Known for its world-class skyline, Dubai has carved out a niche alongside cities like Singapore as a hub for innovative ideas.
Yousuf Al Shaibanai, Director General of DESC, said: “DESC has worked diligently along with its partners to establish the best practices and standards to be adopted to enable and secure these emerging technologies against any challenges. We can smoothly move to an era where humans are not needed and where self-driving can fully be trusted to be driven hundreds of kilometers without disruption.”
The new standards and guidelines cover aspects such as failures/attacks that previously affected autonomous vehicles, vehicle communication security, vehicle software security, vehicle hardware security, and supply chain security.
