Ferrari Reveals 2018 Portofino ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show

Posted by Zaran Tarapore on Aug 24, 2017

As the Italian marque bids farewell to a popular volume seller, the California T, it welcomes an all-new entry-level model into its line-up, the 2018 Ferrari Portofino. Named after a small port town on the Italian Riviera, the Portofino shares the hardtop convertible nature with its predecessor, while being 0.6-inches longer, 1.0-inches wider, and far more aggressive on the styling front.

Despite an increase in torsional rigidity, the Portofino’s all-new chassis and body-in-white components result in a significant weight saving over the California T it replaces. Like the outgoing model, however, the Portofino is powered by a front-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 that produces 591 horsepower and 761 Nm of torque.

A new intake system, redesigned pistons, revamped connecting rods, and an improved exhaust system, allow the Portofino to produce 39 horsepower and 5 Nm more than the California T. If official figures are anything to go by, the Portofino is also expected to hit 100 km/h in 3.5-seconds and a top speed of 320 Km/h.

With a new electronic rear differential (E-Diff3) and F1-Trac, the Portofino offers improved mechanical grip and control of the vehicle when at the limit. Being the first GT in the range to be fitted with EPS (Electric Power Steering) the Portofino brings with it a more responsive steering and improved stability.
