Ferrari Roma Spider revealed with 612hp

The Ferrari Roma has gone topless just in time for the summer. Ferrari has taken the wraps off the Roma Spider and it will succeed the Portofino M in the Italian carmaker’s product portfolio.

Let’s talk numbers then and the most important one for a drop-top is how long it takes to get the roof up. The Roma Spider’s roof comes up in just 13.5 seconds while cruising at up to 37.28 miles per hour (60 kilometers per hour).

Talking about mechanical changes, there aren’t any with the Roma Spider sharing the twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 with its hard-top sibling. The engine produces 612 horsepower and 760 Newton-meters of torque and is mated to a dual-clutch, eight-speed automatic.

According to Ferrari, the Roma Spider can reach 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 124 mph in 9.7 seconds. In comparison, the hardtop variant accelerates to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds but tops out at 124 mph in 9.3 seconds. Ferrari claims that the highest speed of both cars is above 199 mph (320 kph). What’s even more impressive, the nearly identical performance between the hard-top and soft-top Roma has been achieved due to the Spider just weighing 185 pounds (84kg) more than the coupe.

On the outside, the biggest difference is the rear deck which is divided into two portions by a body-color fascia to provide room for storing the roof. The bottom half combines into an active carbon-fiber spoiler.

Step inside and you will find a luxurious cabin. Electrically adjustable 18-way heated seats are available with the neck warmer available as an option. The rest of the interior is identical to the hard-top with an 8.4-inch central display and center console that creates separate cockpits for the front passengers. Option of having a screen on the passenger side is available.

Loads of customizations are available with customers having the opportunity to select tailored fabrics and contrasting stitching for the roof. For ensuring that the occupants don’t have to go to the hairdresser everytime the roof is down, the Roma Spider has a power-deploying wind deflector that integrates into the rear bench's backrest.

The price and availability of the Roma Spider in the UAE region is yet to be confirmed by Ferrari.
