Honda has launched a Tourer version of the popular Civic in the European market with hopes that it will boost the sales of the brand. Currently, consumers are buying SUVs and crossovers over small cars but Honda predicts that the market will rise in the next few years and Civic Tourer will share 20% of total Civic sales in the region. Some of the car’s highlights include:

- 235mm longer in length than the 5-door Civic hatchback

- Biggest trunk in its class – 624 liters with rear seats up. Rises to 1668 liters with rear seats down.

- 2 engine options: 1.6 liter diesel and 1.8 liter petrol

- First car to have rear adaptive damper system.

- Safety options include laser radar system which brakes automatically if speeds are below 32kph to avoid collision

- Built in Swindon, England

- Starting from 21,500 euros

This is a new competing market segment with Toyota launching a wagon version of the Auris. Thus, Japanese are taking the competition to the American and Germans.
