Ford Expedition Stealth review: Is it the best Sleeper SUV you can buy?

Posted by Tejas Kokcha on Mar 12, 2023

The Ford Expedition is seen by many as the ultimate family SUV. It oozes the American sleeper vibe. The Blue Oval has uncovered a new Expedition Stealth edition and we’ve got the chance to lay our hands over it. The big question is - does the Stealth edition make the Expedition the best sleeper SUV in the market?

From the outside, the Expedition Stealth really gives the vibe that it really is here to make its mark. Being the ‘Stealth’ edition, everything right from the Ford logo to the 22” wheels all the way to the back is blacked out. Talking about those wheels, they really gave us strong Mustang Bullitt vibes. To make you feel special, the Expedition has automatic side steps.

And once you get in via those side steps, you are greeted with a fantastic interior. It is an 8 seater with three rows of seating and no matter where you sit, there’s space everywhere.

Once you’re fully comfortable in those leather seats featuring red stitching, you can play with the huge 15.5” infotainment system coming straight from the Mach-E. While it does support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, we did notice some lag while testing it.

The 12.4” Instrument Panel Cluster is pretty nice as well while the power adjustable seats ensure the driver doesn’t have to play around with the seating everytime they get in. To further enhance the interior, single color ambient lighting is also on offer. Oh, and before we forget to tell you, it has wireless phone charging, cruise control, lovely B&O speakers, a panoramic sunroof and lots and lots of cupholders.

The car we had on test also had the performance pack, meaning it had red calipers and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 coming from the Raptor. In this guise, it produces 440 horsepower and 705 Nm of torque. All the power is put down the road via a 10 speed automatic gearbox which we simply loved. However, as it is a performance oriented vehicle as well as a comfort cruiser, we sorely missed paddle shifters. And the worst part is, Ford has given it a Manual Shifter in the form of buttons, like why would you do that?

Talking about driving, initially the Expedition can feel a bit heavy and large. However, the adapted dampers and sports tuned suspension make the SUV feel like a fabulously handling fortress on wheels. For off-road expeditions (we simply couldn’t help it), the Ford Expedition has an electronic limited slip diff and rear diff lock on offer.

In terms of safety, Dual-stage Front Airbags, Side Airbags, Canopy Airbags, Driver & Passenger Knee Airbags are on offer, taking the total airbags to 8. As far as fuel efficiency is concerned, the Expedition gives a modest 7.6 km/liter.

At 333,795 AED, the Ford Expedition looks like a very tantalizing option for somebody in the market for a full-size SUV. Whether or not it is the best in the market, you can tell us in the comments.
