Ford GT production run extended

The Ford GT has been making waves on automotive forums and blogs since its initial appearance at the North American International Auto Show in 2015. Hyped to exhibit one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car, it is no surprise why well-heeled motoring enthusiasts from across the globe have been filling in application forms to have their name on the privileged list.

To maintain exclusivity, however, the American marque is following a stringent screening procedure and has declined several hundred applications in the process. The silver lining for fans and potential buyers, however, is that Ford has extended the production run of its carbon fiber supercar for an additional two years.

“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,” says Dave Pericak, Global Director, Ford Performance. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.”

The additional production run supports the brand’s recent decision to race the Ford GT in both, IMSA and World Endurance Championship (WEC) series events for four years. The third year of production will target applicants who were placed on the wait list, while the fourth year will serve deferred applicants or those missed the initial application window.
