Ford recalled more than 3,000 cars in the UAE because of a fuel tank fault that could result in fire according to the manufacturer.

A total of 3,305 of the affected cars have been sold in the UAE, which are the 2013 MY Taurus, Explorer, Flex, Lincoln MKS and MKT.

Worldwide, a number of 465,000 vehicles have been recalled, most of them in North America and Mexico due to the fault.

Ford Middle East said in a statement today "Ford Middle East is announcing a service campaign for certain 2013 Ford Taurus, Explorer, Flex, and Lincoln MKS and MKT for a fuel delivery module that may leak,"  adding that no reports of fires, accidents or injuries has been reported.

The car maker said that customers could smell an odour of fuel or see fuel leaking onto the ground.
