Future V-series Blackwing variants announced by Cadillac

The Blackwing name comes from the brand name GM technicians gave to Cadillac’s first-ever twin-turbo V8 produced since 2019. It was also the first Cadillac-exclusive dual overhead can V8 engine since the Northstar V8 which was produced back in 2011.

Are you excited yet? Well, the big news is that Cadillac just announced yesterday that 2 Blackwing variants are going to be available on the fourth-generation V-series. Starting with the 2020 CT4-V and CT5-V.

These future track-capable Cadillacs get specially tuned chassis, engines and vehicle control technologies. To add to the excitement each model will also be available with manual transmissions. Something that makes these performance machines stand out in a time when most luxury brands no longer offer such an option.

Both the CT4-V Blackwing and the CT5-V Blackwing have been undergoing testing to make sure that these versions represent the apex of Cadillac performance and drive management.

Earlier this year the testing included track sessions at the Virginia International Raceway. Where each car set lap times seconds faster than the legendary ATS-V and CTS-V according to a press release from Cadillac.

In the same press release Brandon Vivian, Cadillac executive chief engineer explained: “The Blackwing name has come to represent the very best of Cadillac performance engineering, craftsmanship, and technology. The new CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing build on the brand’s respected legacy of ultimate-performance driving experiences and elevate them even further.”

It is always refreshing to see luxury brands offering auto enthusiasts the chance to own and drive cars that represent the pinnacle of the companies engineering capabilities.
