Honda Demonstrates Driverless Valet Parking System

Posted by on Oct 27, 2013

Driverless cars are the future – but we all know that. However, the improvements coming along the way still don’t fail to excite us as we get a glimpse of how cars will be driven 10 or 20 years from now. One of the challenges of autonomous cars is the parking. Numerous manufacturers have introduced their take on the self-parking system and now Honda has unveiled an automatic valet parking system at the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress in Tokyo.

Previously, we posted an article about Ford’s autonomous system which lets the driver to park the car without being in it. Honda has stepped it up a notch by giving it a more commercial appeal. Their system allows multiple cars to park automatically in the designated parking spots using the cars’ rear-view cameras and the parking lot cameras. They are proposing this new system to the malls and hypermarket chains with the idea being that the customers can leave their cars outside the parking lot and can go to shop while the cars can park themselves and when they are done shopping they can simply call the car outside and head on their way back. In this way, little or no time will be lost in finding parking spaces which is a major concern for shoppers today. You can watch the demo below.
