Honda previews electric NSX successor as part of future EV plans

Honda has released its future electrification plans and pledged that it will launch 30 new pure-electric vehicles globally by 2030 and aims to become a carbon neutral brand by 2050. However, the Japanese carmaker has said that "a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional approach" is needed for the shift towards electrification rather than “replacing engines with batteries". We’re impressed!

The most juicy part of the news is that alongside the shadowy silhouettes previewed by Honda, it has released shadowy teasers of a flagship electric grand tourer and, time to be happy JDM fans, the electric successor to the NSX.

Honda has further elaborated on EV plans in three markets: North America, China, and Japan. Two mid to large size EVs being developed jointly with GM will be introduced in 2024 alongside the all-new Honda Prologue SUV and new EV SUV in North America. The Chinese market will get 10 new EV models from Honda by 2027 while the firm’s homeland, Japan, will get its first taste of a Honda EV in the form of a commercial-use mini-EV model by early 2024 with personal-use mini-EVs and EV SUVs to be revealed after that.

Honda will end combustion car sales globally by 2040 and all these EV plans are part of a £31billion electrification strategy which also includes R&D of a new EV platform and solid-state batteries.
