The Hyundai Motor Group that we know today was officially formed back in 1998, and it is one of the world’s largest & most successful automotive companies. The group owns brands that include Kia, as well as Hyundai’s posh arm, i.e., Genesis. In the recently held 2023 Newsweek Autos Awards, all three marques under the Hyundai Motor Group won a total of 11 awards. This can be compared to the company’s performance the previous year when it bagged a total of 8 awards.

Hyundai Motor Group’s President and Chief Technology Officer, Yong Wha Kim, spoke about the momentous achievement. Mr. Yong Wha Kim stated, “We are honored to receive these awards, which reflect our commitment to excellence. We are dedicated to driving the transition to the new era of electrification, and core to this ambition is the continuous delivery of cutting-edge, customer-centric sustainable mobility solutions that offer advanced technologies and unmatched appeal across the HMG brands.”

Among the nearly dozen awards that have been handed to the group, brand Hyundai won the 'Best Brand for Your Buck’ award. The Korean carmaker has been consistently designing and producing some quality models over the recent years while also keeping their prices attractive enough for buyers. Meanwhile, the new Hyundai Santa Cruz bagged the 'Best Small Pickup' award. Even though the Santa Cruz pickup isn’t currently available in the UAE, its pricing in the United States ranges between USD 26,650 and 41,070 for the 2024 model year.

As for Hyundai’s sister concern, the 2023 Newsweek Autos Awards decorated Kia Motors with 8 awards, among which was the 'Most Innovative Vehicle Brand' award. Kia went on to win another award for boasting the 'Best SUV Lineup'. In our market, Kia UAE sells SUV models like the Kia Sonet, Kia Soul, Kia Seltos, Kia Sportage, Kia Sorento, and Kia Telluride. Among these, the Kia Seltos won the 'Best Small SUV’ & ‘Most Improved Vehicle’ awards, with the new Kia Sportage winning the 'Best Two-Row SUV’ accolade.

The all-electric Kia EV9 won two titles, namely the 'Best Premium SUV' & 'Best SUV Interior' awards respectively. As for the Kia Carnival, it bagged the 'Best Minivan’ award at the 2023 event. Newsweek Autos Awards handed the prestigious 'Vehicle Editor's Picks' award to the new Genesis Electrified GV70. The judges particularly appreciated the GV70 EV for its state-of-the-art features and technology package.

Newsweek Autos Awards has been conducted every year for the past three years, where vehicles are judged based on several important criteria. These include various factors such as vehicle design & packaging, comfort & material quality, onboard technologies & sound insulation, and of course, the pricing. Around 60 percent of the evaluations performed by the judges on individual car models are based on their physical features and packaging, while the remaining 40 percent is based on how they drive.
