Infiniti launches new name model QX70

Infiniti Middle East is the first regional center in the world to introduce the new naming system of 'Q' and 'QX' models. The first of new models, the QX70 will be available soon. New name badge models will be rolled out as part of the new model line up in coming months.

This was announced today at a press conference by Infiniti Middle East management.

The new naming structure actually goes back to heritage. The Q45 model naming system was introduced in 1989 in United States. In 1996, the Q45 was introduced to the Middle East market. By 2004, the full line up was launched in Abu Dhabi.

Here is the new model naming structure:

- Infiniti M Luxury Sedan will now become Infiniti Q70

- Infiniti G Sports Coupe and Convertible will now become Infiniti Q60

- Infiniti G Sedan will now become Infiniti Q50

- Infiniti QX will now become Infiniti QX80

- Infiniti FX will now become Infiniti QX70

- Infiniti JX will now become Infiniti QX60

- Infiniti EX will now become Infiniti QX50

The naming structure has been designed keeping future model launches in mind and having a logical, expandable and easy to remember structure. This is also similar to other premium German brands like Audi and Volvo that follow similar single letter naming conventions.

Aside from the naming structure, further expansion plans were also revealed. As of 2012, 6,000 Infiniti cars were sold in the Middle East, out of which 2,000 were sold in UAE. This year the plan is to increase UAE sales to 2,500 units. A host of new launches are expected in the coming months. New management changes are underway, with a new VP Middle East, Fintan Knight joining recently. He will be responsible for brand operations in Africa, Middle East, India and Europe.
