It’s back! Meet the 2023 Toyota Crown

Posted by Tejas Kokcha on Jun 15, 2023

Toyota has unveiled its all new Crown in the UAE. The Crown is the Japanese carmaker’s oldest nameplates and it holds great significance in the Middle East as well - the Crown was the first Japanese sedan to land in the region back in the 1960s. So the fact that it has made a comeback after an absence is quite a big deal.

So what does the 16th-generation Crown have on offer for us? The striking looks catch the eye. While it looks like a sedan when viewed from the top, have a glance on the side profile and you will see a higher ground clearance than most sedans and a shape that makes it look like a mashup of a sedan and crossover silhouette.

The interior has a very premium feel to it with a 12.3-inch TFT all-digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and posh seats. The Crown also has a head-up display (HUD), dual-zone temperature control with rear AC vents, ventilated seats, an 11-speaker JBL surround sound system, and a hands-free, electrically driven trunk.

Under the hood you will find Toyota’s first-ever 2.4-litre inline four-cylinder turbo engine combined with two electric motors to produce a combined output of 345hp. Toyota claims that the hybrid setup enables the Crown to have a class leading fuel efficiency of 18.0kmpl.

The Crown has the full suite of safety features including a Pre-Collision System (PCS), Automatic Emergency Brake, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert among others. Marking a first for Toyota, the Crown has Safe Exit Assist (SEA), which detects oncoming vehicles or bicycles from behind and instantly cancels door openings to avoid potential crashes. Intelligent, indeed.

Jacques Brent, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Toyota & Lexus said: "We are thrilled to announce the return of the legend and introduce the highly-anticipated All-New Toyota Crown to the United Arab Emirates. Built to deliver an intuitive driving experience, this premium new vehicle brings powerful acceleration and confident handling, along with supreme comfort for a sophisticated ride, all wrapped in a bold new design.”

Two trims are available for the Crown with the top-trim coming with the option of a two-tone paint to make the sedan standout from the crowd. Prices are set to start from around AED 200,000.
