Kia Optima 2017 vs Hyundai Sonata 2017 Comparison

Posted by on Nov 5, 2017

Hyundai and Kia are two popular auto brands that offer the best midsize sedans in the industry. Through and through, these car manufacturers have proven that they are the leaders when it comes to providing customers with ultimate driving experiences at reasonable rates. Not to mention, the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima are today’s best sellers in the market. But which one really performs better?

Exterior

The Koreans have come a long way in their designs and these, especially the Sonata, are good examples. These two models look stunning compared to their older brethren and can easily compete with the major players in their price range. While both are based on the same platform, both manufacturers embellish it with their own design cues. Hyundai went ahead and put its signature grille up front, horizontal DRLs, and larger headlights and taillights to contrast the body’s sleek lines. Kia went with a different approach and accentuated the cars lines instead, something Kia has been doing on all its models. This includes a smaller grille, sleeker headlights and taillights with integrated LED DRLs.

Interior

Both can accommodate 5 passengers with generous space between two rows. They also have similar options such as heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery. However, the Sonata provides sport seats and ventilated front seats. On this aspect, a tiebreaker may be needed if not because of Sonata’s 7-inch system display. But still, both have rearview camera, 6-speaker sound system, USB ports, Bluetooth and touchscreen infotainment system.

Performance

The 2017 Kia Optima is powered by 2-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 162 horsepower with 198 Nm of torque. It can reach 100 km/h in 10.8 seconds. This Korean midsize sedan is an excellent choice for urban crawlers. On the other hand, the Hyundai Sonata does feature more tricks up its sleeve to make it stand out. The attention-grabbing Sonata packs a 2.4 liters 4 cylinder inside its beautifully sloped hood. It can run up to 205 kilometers per hour with 178 horsepower and 228 Nm of torque.

Verdict

You can get the Kia Optima for AED 63,900 and Hyundai Sonata for AED 82,000. Your budget might be one of the major considerations when purchasing a car, but you also need to consider performance, fuel efficiency, and design, and that is all served well by the Hyundai Sonata.
