Kia Sportage expands lineup with Sportage PHEV

Kia has expanded its electrified lineup with the all new Sportage PHEV. The most impressive thing about the PHEV is that it has a pure electric range of 32 miles.

So let’s talk about what powers the Sportage PHEV because that is what you'll be interested in. The Sportage PHEV has a 1.6-liter, 177-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled with a 66.9-kW electric motor. In terms of charging the electric motor, Kia tells us that the battery can be charged in just two hours to charge when connected to a Level 2 charger.

The Sportage PHEV boasts increased average tensile strength and torsional stiffness thanks to Kia’s “N3” platform which has hot-stamped parts and ultra-high-strength steel.

Outside you will find Kia’s signature Tiger Grille, sleek LED tail lights, “boomerang” daytime running lights and very muscular haunches.

Elsewhere the Sportage recipe is pretty much the same with lots of boot space and legroom, dual 12.3-inch display infotainment having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360 degree surround camera, and an intelligent 4-wheel drive system having welcome features like Integrated Electronic Brake system and Downhill Brake Control.

A whole host of safety gear is also there on the Sportage PHEV like Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), etc.

“The first Sportage PHEV to be introduced in the U.S. demonstrates that Kia is listening to our consumers who are asking for electrified solutions and super-efficient powertrains, and Sportage delivers on that promise in a sophisticated, refined package,” said Sean Yoon, president and CEO, Kia America and Kia North America. “As Kia continues to implement our Plan S strategy and push toward carbon neutrality, models like Sportage PHEV are paving the way.”
