Maserati Quattroporte 2016 Review

Maserati has always been this aloof luxury brand in the UAE especially. It is there in front of everyone but consumers somehow prefer German brands over it. And, that always puzzled me. Is it the country of origin? Is it the price factor? Is it the dealer? Is it the car itself? So, I thought let’s give this one a shot and see what’s it like to drive a luxurious Maserati. The car given to me was the Maserati Quattroporte S. Quattroporte in Italian means four doors.

From the first look itself, one can say the Quattroporte is definitely Italian. The lines, the curves, the sculpture: basically every angle of this car is a piece of art. The designers have taken their sweet time to shape this machine. The fact that Ferrari and Maserati are under the same umbrella also helps its case. Overall the car looks handsome but somehow the car looks outdated and needs a refresh.

Interior and Safety
The interior is where Maserati emphasized the most. They tied up with Zegna to create special interiors using plush leather and unique colors. My first impression: the Quattroporte interior doesn’t boast many features but the seats are one of the best in the market. I felt as comfortable as sitting in a Rolls Royce. The seats don’t hug you but they are thick and soft so you just feel like you’re floating in mid-air. The cabin’s focus is not to disturb you with tech gimmicks. Instead, this is a place to relax and unwind. The interior space is plenty and the boot space is also large. Coming to the features, it is in the end a Chrysler and you get the same touchscreen infotainment (with the same layout), airbags, ABS, adaptive cruise, rear camera, sensors etc.
Drive
The Quattroporte S Q4 I got was powered by a 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 that produces 410 BHP and 550 Nm of torque. Add to that an all-wheel-drive system and this luxury cruise propels from 0-100 in 5.0 seconds. The braking is a bit wobbly and can be improved. The Quattroporte feels alive in the corners and doesn’t feel like a large automobile. It is nimble yet smooth. The engine sounds lovely for a V6 – to people outside as cabin noise is almost non-existent. Overall, the drive is apt but I would have loved to test the V8 GTS to get a proper feel.

Verdict
The Maserati Quattroporte is not your German luxury saloon. It is rather a sports saloon which is a tad long. The car is definitely worth a look if you’re not into gimmicky tech features and just want to ride in luxury.
