Meet the all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, hold your hearts for… the very first electric muscle car. Boo. Yes, we know, it might sound daunting at first but listen to the full bit. Dodge has unveiled the first electric muscle car and - this really is a pleasant surprise - it is louder than a V8 muscle car!

How has Dodge done this? Well, that’s thanks to a 'Fratzonic chambered exhaust' which puts out 126 decibels of computer-generated supercharged V8 like sound. Dodge says that it “drives like a Dodge, looks like a Dodge and sounds like Dodge” and will also be as loud as the Charger SRT Hellcat.

In the midst of all this, we forget to tell you its name - this is the Charger Daytona SRT Concept. Long name but it indicates that it could set a new standard in muscle car top speeds as the previous Charger Daytona, broke the 200mph mark on a NASCAR track in 1970.

Talking about the Charger SRT Hellcat, we are told that the electric Charger (did you see that?) will outmuscle the 700+ horsepower producing monster “in all key performance measures.”

On the outside, the vertical detailing on the front grille is a nod to the 1968 Charger. Other exterior features include super-cool front and rear light bars, 21-inch diamond-cut wheels, illuminated three-pointed Fratzogs badges which were present on Dodge muscle cars built between 1962 and 1976 and the evil-looking paint which Dodge calls Greys of Thunder.

The electric Charger has an 800V ‘Banshee’ electric powertrain which sends power to all four wheels. Oh, and before we forget to tell you, it's got a push-to-pass boost button.

Just like the fake noise, there’s also an ‘eRupt’ transmission which allows you to change gears. The gearchanges will give you the full muscle car feel and have the capability of “throwing shoulders into seatbacks in true Dodge style”.

While this mad machine is still a concept, we now know that muscle cars in the all-electric era will not be BORING. Not at all if they’ll be like the Charger Daytona SRT Concept.
