Mercedes AMG GTR 2018 Spied

Mercedes-Benz hit the bullseye when it unveiled the AMG GT in 2015. The car was a drastic shift from the supercar direction and this was a welcome change as compared to the not so perfect SLS AMG. The AMG GT is again completely made by Mercedes/AMG unlike the SLR which was a creation in partnership with Mclaren. The GT is a beautifully sculpted piece of art and that roadster / hot rod exterior is one of the best looking machines available today.

However, the only complain which people had been that the car is under powered as they were expecting another supercar from the German brand. But, in my opinion, Mercedes did a very good job in structuring the design, specs and pricing of the vehicle. It is meant to battle the benchmark setting Porsche 911 and it was built from ground up keeping that mind. Hence the 4.0 liter turbocharged V8 engine produces 503 BHP – which is closer to the 911 performance figures – and not the bonkers 700 BHP like you would expect from a Ferrari or Lamborghini

Well, that issue has been resolved by Merc as they are soon going to launch a more potent and track focused AMG GTR. The car was announced prematurely at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. So, what is the difference between GT and GTR? Well, 67 BHP. Yes, the AMG GTR produces 570 BHP – almost the same as the SLS AMG. The engine will be the same used in the GT but tuned high for better performance. Other changes include bigger front intakes, special tyres, extra carbon fiber, unique exhaust, bigger brakes, huge rear spoiler and some weight reduction. More details will follow when it is officially launched next year.
