Mercedes Benz EQS SUV revealed as ultimate luxury SUV

Mercedes has revealed its electric flagship SUV - the EQS. This is the car from Mercedes which will rival the newly-established SUVs of the electric segment from its German neighbors - the Audi E-tron and BMW iX.

Before we talk about the tech and luxury in the EQS SUV, we can confirm that it can see upto 5 or, drumroll please, 7 people. Hurrah!

Anyways, let’s talk about the exterior of the EQS SUV. At first it might look like a raised version of the EQS sedan but look closely and you will find that the SUV has a more muscular appearance. Built on the Merc’s EVA architecture shared across the EQ range, the EQS sedan is 5125mm in length, 1959mm in width and 1718mm in height meaning that it is shorter but wider and lower than its petrol counterpart, the GLS SUV.

Common EQ design elements can be found like the black panel grille,  angular LED headlights and a horizontal LED light bar which is something we really love.

Mercedes has given the EQS SUV its AirMatic air springs and variable damping control as standard for top of the line ride quality. The SUV has four modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and, because it's an SUV, Off-Road. Now, some might fret on the idea of taking an electric SUV off-road but Merc says that the Off-Road mode will “enable the EQS SUV to tackle light terrain.”

Step inside and you will be greeted by an interior that can be found across the EQ range with the MBUX Hyperscreen available as an option. The infotainment features the German marque’s new zero-layer software that keeps the navigation map on-screen permanently for ease of access. You’ll be able to hear your favourite songs in the car with a Burmester 3D audio system that incorporates Dolby Atmos technology.

Mercedes is offering the EQS SUV with two variants - EQS 450 and EQS 580. The EQS 450 can be had with a single or dual motor setup and irrespective of that this trim of the SUV will produce 355 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. The EQS 580 has a dual motor setup which offers 536 hp and 633 lb-ft. In terms of range, according to the WLTP cycle, the EQS 450 boasts a range of 600 kilometers, the same info isn’t available for the EQS 580.

Mercedes’ head honcho Ola Kallenius said: “With the EQS SUV, we are continuing to consistently implement the strategy of making our vehicles more sustainable and digital, with the goal of building the most desirable electric cars in the world.”
