Mitsubishi Pajero vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Comparison

Posted by on Nov 15, 2018

The SUV segment is choc-full of competitors coming in from different brands and price brackets. Seats seven, and having decent off-road performance plus a few tech goodies put in, modern SUVs have become a practical choice for budget conscious consumers. Two of the more popular models in the segment are the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Exterior

Both the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado have been around for some time and have experienced quite a few reincarnations as far as exterior design is concerned. Both are more on the classy side but the Pajero is clearly the more aggressive with the side bulges and the flashy fog and daytime running lights.

Interior

Both models have learned from their past and have incorporated a lot of features in their individual interior designs. The nice combination of plastic, fabric, and leather make both the Pajero and the Prado cabins feel more upscale. But the Prado raises the bar higher for its competitor by incorporating more tech into the panel. The Pajero, in its bid to remain in the more reserved section, has a more conservative setup.

Performance

With two engine options, the Mitsubishi Pajero gives consumers the choice whether to get the 3.5-liter or the 3.8-liter engine, both V6 variants. For the power consumers, the 3.8-liter machine can out 250 horsepower and with maximum torque of 330 Nm. This power lets the Pajero hit 100 km/h in as little as 10.8 seconds. 200 km/h is the top speed this machine can handle.

On the higher end of the Prado power spectrum sits the 4.0-liter V6 powerhouse capable of reaching 100 km/h in 9 seconds flat. All thanks to the 271 horsepower and 381 Nm of torque this car can produce. Top speed is the same as the Pajero, topping out at 200 km/h, but all that raw power means the Prado can pull its own weight plus that of the Pajero with ease.

Verdict

If cost will be the deciding factor for a buyer, the Mitsubishi Pajero tops the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. It’s preppy, tech-laden, and fun to drive with more than decent power. But if raw power is to be taken into consideration, the 4.0-liter V6 Prado comes in as the winner.
