As part of a new scheme introduced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), number plates around the emirate are set to receive a facelift with officials requesting motorists to upgrade to the new design. Launched in 2014, the new design, which utilizes a combination of pink and blue hues, sees the amalgamation of the word “Dubai” in both English and Arabic to form an eye-catching design along the number plate.

In its recent public announcement, the RTA said it “would like all car owners with owned registration number plates from A to Z to upgrade to the new plate design, and from May 2018, all car owners with unowned A, B and C number plates are requested to upgrade to the new plate design.” Details as per the costs for owned registered plates were not revealed, but for unowned plate holders of A, B, and C codes, the costs are said to be minimal. For short-length plates, the upgrade cost is Dh35 per plate while for longer plates, the cost is Dh50.

For those interested in purchasing a unique number plate, the RTA will be hosting an auction next month where it intends to offer 300 number plates comprising of four and five digits numbers bearing the codes J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T. The bidding will begin at 8AM on March 4th and continue for five days. Number plates sold in this auction will be subject to 5% VAT.
