New car review: Infiniti Q70

The Q70 is the top-most offering from Infiniti in the sedan segment. It is a big car with an individual presence. Add to that some modern interior features and respectable powertrains and you have yourself the recipe to travel in luxury. But is it really worth spending money on - considering the abundance of sports sedans from almost all the manufacturers? Let's find out.

The new Q70 (previously known as the M) is basically the same old car with a refreshed front and rear. However, it is not bad to keep a distinctive look without resorting to extreme makeovers and bold lines. If something works then stick with it. Also, with the Q50 in the offering, the change in fascias is something obvious. So, all in all, decent job.

The story is same inside as well. Once you open the door, you will definitely know that it is an Infiniti and not Nissan - which is THE way to go. Plush leather everywhere greets you and the seats are snuggly enough to keep you comfortable through long journeys. But, one aspect which still doesn't appeal to me is the number of buttons spread out on the dash/steering. Infiniti needs to minimize the buttons on the console - in my opinion. As, it doesn't suit the 'luxury' image of the car. Other than that, all is well.

The Q70 we tested was powered by the 3.7L V6 engine producing 330 BHP. In my opinion, the engine performs exceptionally well and no one would actually require a V8 option. The car behaves as it should at high speeds and gearshifts are smooth enough to not provide disturbance to anyone driving peacefully.

Overall, the car is a decent alternative to the German offerings. Infiniti needs to push the brand as a separate entity because the consumers still consider Infiniti as an upmarket Nissan - a thinking which is working against the brand. In short, they have the right products in hand, now they need to make these products attractive.
