New Salik gates cause traffic

Posted by Samar Huneidi on Jun 10, 2013

An increase of traffic has been noticed on alternative routes between Dubai and Sharjah since The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced the 2 new Salek gates on Al Ittihad Road and Airport Tunnel.

The residents of the affected areas, Al Ghusais, Al Nahda, Al Twar and Oud Al Muteena, have been complaining about the problem.

The RTA introduced those 2 new gates in order to decrease the traffic movement in Al Ittihad and Airport Tunnel but that resulted in traffic on other streets such as Beirut Street, Damascus Street and Doha Street.

The 2 new toll gates became active on April 15, which charges drivers who pass through the gates Dh4.

RTA officials were not available for comments.
