We all want everything we see, wear, touch, feel and use to look unique. When scouting for things in a market, unique objects are the ones which we fancy and because of their sophisticated decorative designs, epicures build a penchant for them. Japan is a country which has firmly stuck to its roots and expresses its unique tradition, heritage and culture in its own scintillating style. Hence, it was the right moment for Nissan to show the artistic Japanese work through the medium of its cars. Recently unveiled and shown at the Expo 2020 Dubai, was Ariya, the brand’s state of the art fully electric SUV-crossover which is easily the most discrete and advanced car the brand has ever produced. To further bestow it with stylized elements, it now comes with typically Japanese Kumiko and Sakura themes all across its exterior and interior to add extra appeal and stand out in the crowd.

Kumiko, a word that denotes traditional Japanese woodworking technique which brings together intricate rococo and shapes, is enough to cast a mojo on one. A paragon would be a pattern found just under the shield’s smooth surface. In addition to this, there are some clever touches sporting this pattern on the inside too. For example, a pattern has been embossed on the front window, just near the mirror for a pleasing texture outline.

An area left untouched in most cars is the side of the dashboard as it won’t be visible to the occupants the moment doors are shut. However, Nissan has gone a step further to adorn it with Kumiko appliques to provide it with a unique and youthful aura so that it invites you everytime you enter the car. In fact, even on the underside of the cockpit, where Andon lighting is present, Kumiko pattern finds its home to create a unique blend of traditional Japanese paper lantern and these details.

While the aforementioned places were those which were largely concealed, here are some places which are more evident to the eyes. These feature unique design cues just near the door pads on the doors where a strip of ambient lighting runs. Together, they create a warm and lounge-like effect. Even the Bose™ speakers have been given a touch of exclusivity through these bits on them. The speaker covers on the front doors near the storage compartment feature oblique lines and dots among them as an attention grabber.

Just as you lift the tailgate, you will find a medley of shapes under the third brake light! Such is the attention to detail given to the Ariya. Idiosyncratic Japanese emblems and logos have been made on the centre console and under the arm rest. These have haranguing rights to showcase the Japanese tradition and culture.

Sakura, known as one of the most famous cherry blossoms in Japan, design identical to it is engraved on the centre console tray and mobile phone holder, caressed by the designers who wanted this endearing insignia to be prominent inside the car.

Innovation is the key to success these days and based on what the designers have transformed the Ariya into by just a subtle use of such design cues, they have done commendable work. This step is undoubtedly, likely to raise the desirability quotient of the Ariya and make other adversaries feel dime a dozen.
