Nissan Motor Company celebrated the 68th year of the Indian Republic with a record-breaking tribute to the country and its people. With the world’s largest-ever outline of a country map, the legendary Nissan GT R carved out a map of India spanning three square kilometers on the dry Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan.

The choice of location was due to its level and dry lakebed, stunning vistas, and soil, which is soft enough to leave deep impressions to be captured by drones high above. The GT R’s phenomenal handling capability and All-Wheel-Drive system enabled quick maneuverability on the sandy surface of the lake.

Piloted by professional rally driver Rahul Kanthraj, the map was created by plotting the coordinates on a GPS device and covered 3km in length, 2.8km in width, and a total outline periphery of 14.7 km.

Officials from the Limca Book of Records - India’s equivalent of the Guinness Book of World Records - were on site to validate the process. As a mark of respect and appreciation for its customers on Republic Day, Nissan has issued a video that showcases the legendary GT R as it sets the new record; enjoy!
