Presenting the Aeromobil 2.5

Posted by on Oct 23, 2013

Flying cars have always been a fascination for us. They were made popular in the spy movies and engineers have been working hard to make that a reality. The most recent attempt at making a street-legal flying car is the Terrafugia Transition but that has been delayed. Today, we came across another take on the flying car – a better looking, might we add – called the Aeromobil 2.5 which made its maiden test flight.

The name 2.5 means that it is a prototype for the 3rd generation. Yes, this is the 3rd iteration of the car. The first one was created in the 1990 and it has taken 20+ years to develop. The car has folding wings that move back for driving on the road and unfolded for flight. It weighs about half a ton due to a light carbon fiber body. The top speed in air is said to be above 200 km/h while on the ground it’s more than 160 km/h. The range on a single fuel tank is limited to 500 km on road and 700 km in air.

You can watch the maiden test flight below.
