The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has begun phase 3 of its dedicated bus and taxi lane project around congested parts of Dubai. The Al Masar project, which is in its latest phase, covers 1.8-kilometers in the Jumeirah Lake Towers vicinity and aims to curb traffic congestion by offering speedy, effective, and safe public transport services.

“Phase 3 of the dedicated bus and taxi lanes (Masar) will be active from the beginning of July this year, and a fine of AED600 will be issued to violating vehicles,” said Adel Shakri, Director of RTA’s Transportation Systems at Public Transport Agency. Fines for violating motorists with be issued through RTA’s surveillance cameras or by patrolling Dubai Police vehicles.

Following the implementation of Phase 1 and 2, the RTA has monitored a significant increase in the bus compliance with timetables by up to 20%. The preparatory stages of Phase 3 (which did not involve the installation of cameras), has seen reduced number of vehicles using the dedicated bus and taxi lane.
