Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said in a statement: “This inspection campaign was launched to enforce the compliance with the new stipulations set for private parking yards after exhausting the grace period granted to operators to reorganize their business with the approved standards.”

In addition to closing 40 parking lots around Dubai, a total of 165 violations have been issued to violators to improve the quality of service offered to customers and to curb offences made by operators of these parking yards. The prescribed conditions call for electronic monitors at the entry of parking lots to display vacant number of spaces, along with details of the operator, parking fares, and contact numbers.

To improve safety, sufficient lighting is also mandatory in private parking yards, along with clear markings for entry/exit points. The installation of surveillance cameras linked to a recording TV system with concerned parties is also essential for parking operators to adhere to. Parking attendants will also be required to wear an official uniform bearing the name of the parking operator.
