Safety Campaign in Sharjah

“Pedestrian Safety is our Responsibility” is the name of a safety campaign in Sharjah aiming to improve the safety of pedestrians.

The initiative is by the police telling people to cross roads at designated areas and urge drivers to slow down in residential areas. English, Arabic and Urdu flyers will be passed around to expand the message.

Maj Khalid Al Kay, the director of the media and awareness department at Sharjah traffic police, said “It’s important that all road users understand the risks of violating safety, whether crossing or walking on the road, and learn how to stay safe,” adding that pedestrians are the most vulnerable ones on the road.

Police will fine violators Dh500 to those who don’t give way to pedestrians and Dh200 to those who don’t cross the road through the designated spots.
