The Sharjah Police Traffic and Patrols Department, in cooperation with the Department of Information and Public Relations, have launched a campaign called “Be Careful when crossing the traffic light”. This campaign warns drivers about the dangers of bypassing a red light.

This campaign is also part of the ministry’s main traffic campaign “A summer without accidents”.

Any driver who jumps a red signal will be fined Dh800, the vehicle will be impounded for 15 days and will get 8 black points on his/her driving record.

Major Abdel Rahman Khater, Head of Traffic Awareness and Media Section, said: “Various traffic signals have surveillance cameras mounted on them for the purpose of tracking and recording violations of traffic regulations, especially instances of vehicles jumping red signals.”

He also said that jumping a red signal is extremely dangerous and many times fatal.
