The all-new Lamborghini Urus has broken the SUV Pikes Peak record

Lamborghini will be revealing an all-new Urus pretty soon but even before that, the Italian carmaker’s SUV has become a Pikes Peak record holder.

Camouflaged in an orange and black wrap having the words “Keep raising the bar” written on it, the Urus quite literally raised the bar for production SUVs by climbing the 12.42 mile mountain road in 10 minutes and 32.064 seconds. This means that the Urus beat the previous record of 10:49.902 set by the Bentley Bentayga in 2018 by a whopping 17.84 seconds.

The record breaking Urus was driven by Pirelli test driver Simone Faggioli and the car’s Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were an upgrade over the tyres found on the current model. Powered by a twin-turbo V8, the Urus had a special interior that had a roll cage, racing seats and fire extinguisher system for it to set the record lap time around the 156-turn mountain road.

As to what will be new in the next-gen Urus, we noticed new front and rear bumpers and new vents in the bonnet. As for the engine, Lambo has remained as to whether the new Urus had the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the current car or a different one.

"The decision to test ourselves at Pikes Peak reflects the Lamborghini spirit of 'expect the unexpected' and demonstrates the outstanding performance of the new Urus model to be presented shortly," said Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr.
