At this year’s N day, the clever boffins at Hyundai went mad and gave us this - the N Vision 74 concept. For those of you who don’t know, Hyundai celebrates N Day on July 15 which is a big celebration day for the South Korean carmaker’s performance day. This year Hyundai didn’t roll out a proper reveal but instead gave us this retrotastic concept.

So, what does the N Vision 74 concept have? Well, a) it has a very long name and b) it’s a hybrid without a gasoline engine. Before you pulled up that confused face let us clear things up. Carmakers are not just goig behind batteries as the sustainable way of powering cars in the future, they are also doing research to see if hydrogen power can also join the party. This concept is a result of such a result.

Hyundai says that it has used battery power with the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell it's ever created. The result is 671 horsepower and 900 Newton-meters of torque which allows for mind boggling acceleration and top speed figures, which Hyundai hasn’t revealed just yet. What it has revealed is that the N Vision 74 concept has a 62.4kWh battery which can be charged with 800V fast-charging and that “advanced” hydrogen fuel cell which weighs just 4.2kg. The concept is rear wheel drive with two motors turning the wheels at the back.

The chief benefit of a hybrid vehicle having a combination of hydrogen fuel cell and battery pack is that it allows for better cooling efficiency and shorter refuel stops at the hydrogen fuel stations, many of which are not there but hey, it’s a concept that shows how cool cars could be in the future.

And to top things off, look at it! The concept borrows design cues from the 1974 Pony concept and, is it just us or do you also see a hint of the famous DeLorean? Let us know in the comments.
