Three Passengers Now Permitted In Dubai Taxis

In a move to ease regulations and promote travel during the ongoing pandemic, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has increased the number of passengers permitted to travel in a taxi. While initially only two passengers were allowed in the back seat, the RTA now permits three passengers, provided the third passenger is a child up to 14 years old.

“If you commute in taxis, you can now accompany your child (up to 14 years old) as a third passenger in the vehicle without using the seat next to the driver. The number of authorized passengers in the three-row family vehicle (Van) remains 4, as a maximum, until further notice,” the RTA tweeted.

Although the seat beside the driver must be left empty at all times and only two adults (all passengers aged 14 and above) are permitted in the back seat of standard taxis, this move promotes families to use public transport by making it more convenient. As for the larger Dubai taxi vans, each of the two rows of seats for passengers in the van is allowed to take two passengers (a total of four for both rows) to maintain social distancing.
