UAE motorist caught speeding at 225 km h

Umm Al Quwain Police have caught a UAE motorist for speeding down a central highway at 225km/h and described their actions as “insane”. Caught by a radar on Sheikh Zayed Road, the motorist was flashed at 225 km/h, a whopping 80 km/h above the maximum legal limit. Umm Al Quwain Police immediately rushed to catch the reckless motorist and confiscated the vehicle.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols at the General Command of Umm Al Quwain Police urged drivers to stick to the posted speed limits and warned that speeding on roads can lead to serious injury and disastrous consequences. In a statement released by the Police, they were quoted as saying, “We have not, and will not, tolerate any perpetrator that commits such traffic violations. All legal measures will be taken against the motorist.”

Earlier in the year, police in Abu Dhabi and Dubai launched a campaign to warn drivers against the dangers of illegal street racing. Those caught will be heavily penalized with a fine of 2,000 Dirhams, 23 traffic points, and have their vehicle confiscated for a duration of 60 days. As per UAE traffic law, it is also illegal to modify a vehicle’s engine or chassis without prior approval.
