Tuners, arguably the best mechanics in town, are known for being a discontented bunch. Whether a vehicle churns out an output of 50 horsepower or 750 horsepower, they’re never satisfied and it is this burning desire within them that fuels some absolutely wonderful and truly breathtaking projects.

The newest project to send the internet into a click-frenzy is from American tuner, Underground Racing. Taking the 2017 Audi R8 as the canvas for its newest creation, the American tuner has massaged the engine and blessed it with a twin-turbo that generates anything from 800 Wheel Horsepower (WHP) to over 2,200 WHP depending on which one of the six tunes have been selected.

While the standard R8 V10 Plus tops the German manufacturer’s line-up and is more than capable with 601 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, it pales in comparison to what the R8 is capable of once the boffins at Underground Racing have fettled with it.

The most basic tune offered from Underground Racing costs $49,000 and churns out 800 WHP. Very impressive, until you hear about the X Version TT that delivers 1,200 WHP on regular gasoline and over 2,200 WHP on race fuel.

Aren’t we all glad that tuners are a discontented bunch, folks?
