Volkswagen reveals Tiguan R that is faster than Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Small SUVs are all the rage in today’s automotive space and if they happen to be loaded with plenty of horsepowers, then we tend to like them even more. The newest entrant to the small yet furious space is Volkswagen’s Tiguan R, a crossover that packs enough muscle under the bonnet to be faster than the first-gen Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.
Looking at the numbers, the Tiguan R accelerates from a standstill to 100km/h in 4.9-seconds (a tenth of a second quicker than the Porsche) and is claimed to max out at 250km/h. Power is supplied by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that pushes out 315 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission to all four corners.
Developed almost entirely by the brand’s performance ‘R’ division, the Tiguan R features a specially tuned suspension for better handling and sits 10mm lower than the standard model for reduced body roll. The standard sports exhaust system can be upgraded to an Akrapovic titanium exhaust and the stunning 20-inch wheels can be swapped for larger 21-inch Estorils making the Tiguan R a true head-turner.
From an aesthetic viewpoint, the Tiguan R comes with unique bumpers and aerodynamic enhancements that can be had in either body color or high-gloss black. There are also matte chrome mirror caps, a high-gloss black rear diffuser, and black wheel arches that hide 18-inch brake discs with a subtle ‘R’ logo on the calipers. Interior upgrades include premium sports seats with integrated headrests, carbon grey trim, background lighting, stainless steel pedals, and a Digital Cockpit with an in-built lap timer.
