Swedish automaker Volvo launches the all-new S60 sports sedan – the first Volvo car made in the USA. Manufactured at the brand’s Charleston plant in South Carolina, the new S60 signals the company’s commitment to electrification and long-term future beyond traditional combustion engines.

At the launch, Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars, said: “The new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvo cars we’ve ever made. It is a true driver’s car that gives us a strong position in the US and China sedan markets, creating more growth opportunities for the brand.”

The new S60 shares the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform with other models in the line-up. Safety technologies and the infotainment system are borrowed from the V60 estate launched earlier this year, while the design and quality match those of the more popular XC60 and XC90 models.

Two turbo-charged and super-charged plug-in hybrid petrol engines will be available in the new S60 line-up, with the brand’s proven T5 and T6 powerplants available at launch. The T6 plug-in hybrid generates a combined 340 horsepower, while the award-winning T8 AWD plug-in hybrid ups the ante to a whopping 400 horsepower.

On the technological front, the all-new S60 is armed with City Safety and Autobrake technology that assists the driver in avoiding pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. The optional Pilot Assist system also allows drivers to taste autonomous driving with the vehicle handling steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h.
