Behold: the 717hp Aston Martin DBX S
Tags:
Aston Martin has introduced the DBX S, a powerful upgrade of its high-end SUV range, with increased power, improved aerodynamics, and advanced technology. Following the groundwork laid by the DBX707, the DBX S adds a package of upgrades that further solidify its place in the high-performance SUV market.
Powertrain and Performance Upgrades
At the center of the DBX S is a revised 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, now producing 717 horsepower—a 20 hp improvement over the DBX707. The increase comes courtesy of bigger compressor wheels and internal tweaks borrowed from the forthcoming Valhalla supercar. Torque is unchanged at 900 Nm, guaranteeing solid performance throughout the rev range. The SUV reaches 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 311 km/h.
Weight Savings and Handling Dynamics
Aston Martin has taken substantial weight-saving measures with the DBX S. Fitting a carbon fiber roof—the largest ever to an Aston Martin—saves 18 kg, while 23-inch magnesium alloy wheels lose a further 19 kg. These savings add up to a maximum of 47 kg in weight savings relative to the DBX707, dropping the center of gravity and improving handling dynamics.
The suspension system of the SUV has been re-tuned for enhanced responsiveness, with stiffer titanium springs and Multimatic adjustable shocks taken from the 296 GT3 race car. The changes provide enhanced handling and stability on both track and road.
Design and Aerodynamic Refinements
The DBX S boasts a more assertive look, with a honeycomb black grille, carbon fibre front splitter and rear diffuser. Carbon air winglets at the LED DRLs and fresh side skirts contribute to aerodynamic efficiency. At the back, quad-stacked exhausts with finishable finish and prominent 'S' badging reflect its performance intent.
Interior and Technological Improvements
Within, the DBX S comes with a tailor-made 'S' theme, complete with Alcantara upholstery and performance-led herringbone perforation stitch. The interior is equipped with a 1600W Bowers & Wilkins 23-speaker sound system, touchscreen with Pure Black technology, and wireless smartphone charging. 'S' tread plates provide a personal touch to the interior.
The SUV gets a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the automaker's next-gen infotainment software. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Driving Modes and Dynamics
The DBX S features five drive modes: GT, Sport, Sport+, Terrain, and Individual, with the ability for drivers to set up the dynamics of the car for different types of driving conditions. The re-tuned nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive have been calibrated to provide sterner shift patterns and better response.
