Introduction
Audi has unveiled its first model from the new prototype lineup, a stunning roadster named skysphere. This two-door electric vehicle with a convertible roof showcases Audi's future-oriented design language.
Through the skysphere, Audi expresses its vision of progressive luxury, transforming the car's interior into an interactive space where drivers and passengers can enjoy delightful experiences. This is achieved through advanced self-driving technology, innovative cabin design, and a comprehensive digital system.
Future Luxury
Audi aims to set new standards for future luxury with the skysphere prototype. For Audi, it’s not just about driving; it's about providing an extraordinary experience for passengers.
Design and Innovation
The skysphere is designed to offer passengers the ultimate freedom with two distinct experiences:
- A comfortable Grand Touring ride.
- A high-performance sports car experience simultaneously.
This is made possible by Audi's innovative wheelbase adjustment technology. Equipped with an array of electric motors and advanced mechanisms for controlling the vehicle's exterior components, the wheelbase can extend its length by 250 mm, allowing for a more dynamic driving experience. Additionally, the new technology enables a 10 mm height adjustment at the front for enhanced comfort and driving dynamics.
Choosing the Driving Experience
Drivers can select their desired driving experience at the touch of a button. They can opt to drive the electric roadster, measuring 4.94 meters long, in "Sports" mode with a shortened wheelbase, enjoying exceptional agility provided by the rear-wheel steering despite the car's large dimensions. Alternatively, they can experience the self-driving system in a 5.19-meter-long Grand Touring mode, taking in the surrounding scenery and enjoying the spacious legroom and advanced digital technologies.
Advanced Digital Technologies
When the self-driving mode is activated, the steering wheel and pedals disappear, allowing the driver and passengers to relax in the spacious cabin of the convertible sports car.
Meanwhile, the skysphere's sensor system automatically monitors the road and traffic, ensuring safe transport to their destination.
Thanks to cutting-edge digital technologies, innovative Audi services, and an integrated operating system, passengers will experience exceptional driving with complete control while enjoying the highest levels of comfort and luxury in the opulent cabin.
Passengers can share their journey details with friends on social media by posting pictures of the interior or the scenic views outside. The car can also perform daily tasks beyond just driving, such as providing information about the current destination, parking itself, and automatically charging its battery.
Director's Statement
Jayeil Bozen, the project manager for the prototype design, stated: "New technologies such as electric mobility, digitalization, and autonomous driving offer capabilities beyond those of traditional roadsters available today."
Powertrain and Performance
The rear-mounted electric motor is responsible for delivering power to the vehicle's wheels. The roadster, weighing around 1,800 kg, accelerates smoothly thanks to the motor that generates 465 kW and 750 Nm of torque. The rear axle carries approximately 60 percent of the car's total weight, providing superior traction and enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds when this power is needed.
