The Crown Prince of Bahrain attended the penultimate race of the Montreal Grand Prix.

According to Martin Whitmarsh, the head of McLaren and also the Chairman of the Formula One Group, Bahrain will serve as the opening venue for the 2014 Formula One season.
Team Testing Plans
Whitmarsh stated that the idea of holding a mid-January test, possibly in Jerez, is clear. This would allow teams to address any issues and conduct trials in warmer weather conditions in the Middle East, which seems appealing to the teams.
He added that starting the season there appears to be a very reasonable approach, indicating that he believes most people have agreed to this plan, and it will be confirmed soon.
Concerns About Races
Whitmarsh expressed uncertainty about whether Russia or New Jersey would be ready on time but conveyed concerns about the large number of races scheduled for this season.
