Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned Program Launch in UAE

Dubai, UAE - Juma Al Majid has launched the Hyundai Certified Pre-Owned program in UAE. We caught up with Tom (T.H) Lee, Vice President and Head of Middle East HQ:

YallaMotor: Tell us why Hyundai has been a late entrant in the Certified Pre-Owned program.

Tom Lee: We decided to set up the program based on our unique situation. Our primary focus thus far has been on offering value with new cars. Our new car sales have been phenomenal. We are number 2 in new car sales for the Middle East market after Toyota. We have sold 300,000 new cars last year alone. After new cars, we feel it's the right time to offer more value to our customers in the form of quality pre-owned cars.

YallaMotor: What quality characteristics do you offer for your Certified Pre-Owned models?

Tom Lee: There is an advantage of being a late comer as we can now benchmark with the best programs. Our pre-owned cars will be benchmarked based on our program in the US and Europe, with customizations for the Middle East. We offer a one-year warranty or 20,000 km. Our engineers ensure excellent A/C and brake testing on all pre-owned cars. The car will be 4 years old or less or mileage of 80,000 km, whichever comes first. We will guarantee that mileage and provide full history of the car as well.

YallaMotor: What are your expansion plans for Certified Pre-Owned cars?

Tom Lee: Currently, we have 5 certified pre-owned showrooms already operational. We have plans to open another 13 showrooms across the Middle East region.

YallaMotor: How will you price your Certified Pre-Owned cars?

Tom Lee: Our pricing will depend on various factors, including mileage, condition, etc. However, our goal is to maintain a high residual value for Hyundai models as this has been a major concern in the market. In order to maintain a good resale value, we will ensure all aspects of the cars we sell signify quality and value. Just to share with you, in the US, according to the Auto Leasing Guide, Hyundai cars have great resale value. Unfortunately, in the Middle East, our resale value is not the best. Hence, our Certified Pre-Owned program will help us maintain those resale values.
