Launch of the Special Edition
Today, Chevrolet took to the racetrack at Belle Isle Park to celebrate the impressive performance of the Corvette Racing team during the 2020 racing season. On this occasion, they unveiled the special edition of the 2022 Corvette Stingray, named the Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition.
Details of the Special Edition
Chevrolet will produce only 1,000 units of this uniquely designed Corvette, representing racing cars number 3 and 4 from the Corvette C8.R in markets that drive on the left side, such as the Middle East. This special edition supercar pays tribute to the inaugural racing season in which the Corvette C8.R made its mark with a mid-engine layout. In 2020, the Corvette Racing team dominated the IMSA SportsCar Championship, winning both the manufacturers' and drivers' titles.

Team Performance in Racing
Drivers from the Corvette Racing team, Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia, led the special edition number 3 Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible across the iconic MacArthur Bridge to the track. Meanwhile, fellow team driver Nick Tandy took the lead in the Corvette Stingray convertible, which served as the official pace car for the pre-race lap at the 2021 Detroit Grand Prix. Team driver Tommy Milner followed the group in the race car Corvette C8.R number 4.
Corvette's Racing Achievements
Laura Klauser, Director of the Sports Car Program at General Motors, remarked: "Racing has been a fundamental aspect of Corvette heritage from the very beginning. Both the Corvette Stingray and Corvette C8.R have achieved tremendous success based on their mid-engine platform – but this is just the beginning."
Upcoming Competitions for the C8.R
The Corvette Racing star shone during the 2020 IMSA SportsCar Championship, achieving six wins, standing on the podium seven times, and recording the fastest laps in its class on six occasions. In the 2020 season, Chevrolet won the GT Manufacturers' title, its thirteenth since 2001. Both Taylor and Garcia, along with the crew of the Corvette C8.R number 3, secured the drivers' and team championships in the GTLM category.
The C8.R will compete on home turf in Detroit for the first time on Saturday, June 12, with the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic being broadcast live at 5 PM Eastern Time / 1 AM Gulf Time on NBCSN.
