Comprehensive Review of the New Infiniti Q50
We had the opportunity to test drive the new Infiniti Q50 (previously known as the G sedan). We experienced both the Q50 Premium and the Q50 Sport 3.7L, along with the 3.5L Hybrid with full specifications. This time, we drove it on the track and tested its advanced technology. Let's take a closer look:
Elegance
If you consider the G sedan sporty, the Q50 takes sportiness to the next level. It has a lower roofline, a wider stance, and pronounced side contours. Unlike the Hyundai Genesis we tested recently, this model features a distinct rear profile, not just from the front. With rear-wheel drive, the car looks more attractive than ever. There are two variants to choose from:
- Infiniti Q50 Premium with 17-inch alloy wheels and a drag coefficient of 0.26.
- Infiniti Q50 Sport with 19-inch alloy wheels, a lower ride height, and a drag coefficient of 2.75.
Interior Materials and Quality
There are no complaints in this area. All models come with leather seats, soft-touch materials, and wood accents on the console and doors. The Sport model offers the option of black leather seats. Additionally, the center console and doors feature aluminum accents called Cast Shadow. The interior leans more towards luxury than sportiness.
Space and Visibility
Space is decent. There is ample room in the front and back, although coupe designs have their drawbacks, such as limited rear visibility and restricted headroom, especially for the middle rear passenger. The trunk space is rated at 500 liters, but its shape is less accommodating.
Interior Options and Technology
The Q50 comes with a driver-selectable drive mode that allows you to adjust the steering while driving. The infotainment system features two touchscreen displays: a 7-inch navigation screen and an 8-inch entertainment system screen.
Safety Features
Infiniti claims this is the world's first car with an independent braking system that activates from 60 km/h. It is also the first vehicle to develop collision protection technology. There are six airbags, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.
Driving Performance
Power and Acceleration: The 3.5L Hybrid combines a V6 engine with an electric motor, producing 350 horsepower and 536 Nm of torque. Infiniti states that acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes just 5.1 seconds.
Handling and Suspension
The steering technology provides features like adaptive cruise control and collision protection. The car is equipped with Active Trace Control, which assists in cornering.
Driving Aids
Lane-keeping assistance allows us to let go of the steering wheel on highways, as the car will maintain its lane. These technologies are for assistance only, so do not rely on them solely.
Summary
The price starts at AED 165,000 from Arabian Automobiles in Dubai (as per YallaMotor's buyer guide). This price includes one year of insurance, two years of service, and a five-year warranty. The Q50 is beautiful, fast, and packed with technology.
