Closure of Dubai's Floating Bridge to Enhance Marine Transit
Overview of the Closure
Dubai’s Floating Bridge, a pontoon bridge measuring 365 meters in length and 22 meters in width, will be closed from 10 PM on Thursday to 6 AM on Saturday. This closure aims to enhance marine transit through Dubai Creek. A senior RTA official confirmed that crossing Al Maktoum Bridge during this time will be exempt from Salik charges.
Official Statements
CEO of RTA’s Traffic & Roads Agency, Maitha bin Adai, stated: “The extended duration of the Floating Bridge closure will be matched by a corresponding extension of the free crossing over Al Maktoum Bridge. This decision has been made based on comprehensive traffic studies, which revealed that Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, and Al Shandagha Tunnel can accommodate the traffic.”
Background Information
The Floating Bridge, which opened on 16th July 2007, serves as an alternative route for those wishing to avoid the Salik toll. It connects the intersection near Deira City Centre with Al Riyadh Street, situated between Dubai Courts and Dubai Creek Park. The replacement for the Floating Bridge, Al Ittihad Bridge, is a 12-lane megastructure expected to be completed in late 2018.
