Ford Edge ST Review: Exceptional Design and Performance
Tags:
Introduction
The vehicle you see above is the Ford Edge ST. If you're familiar with the American manufacturer Ford, you know that the ST badge indicates a special edition. As the first SUV developed by Ford's high-performance division, it was crafted by the same team responsible for the Focus ST, Mustang Shelby GT350, F-150 Raptor, and the legendary Ford GT.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of the Ford Edge ST earns full marks, as it resembles high-performance vehicles in SUV form. It stands out from standard models with several distinctive features:
- A black front grille at both the top and bottom.
- Glossy black 21-inch wheels that enhance its sporty appearance.
- Dual trapezoidal exhaust tips instead of conventional round ones.
Overall, the vehicle boasts an impressive package of enhancements, a point we can all agree on.
Interior Design
Ford has also distinguished the ST version from the standard model inside. As a sporty variant, the cabin features:
- Heavily bolstered sports seats covered in a mix of leather and suede.
- Leather stitching on the doors and steering wheel.
- Faux carbon fiber accents on the dashboard.
- Aluminum on the accelerator and brake pedals.
While the interior components are impressive, I wish Ford had invested more in reducing visible hard plastic within the cabin.
Additionally, the second-row seats are significant, which Ford has recognized in this version. The rear seats are spacious with ample legroom, but headroom is somewhat limited, and there are air conditioning vents and charging ports available.
Technological Features
The ST version is equipped with various technological features that appeal to younger demographics:
- An 8-inch entertainment system with SYNC 3 software.
- High-quality automatic parking systems.
- Ambient lighting and a premium sound system from "Bang & Olufsen."
- A massive panoramic sunroof.
However, some aspects, such as the complexity of using the standard and adaptive cruise control, could use improvement.
Driving Experience
As a high-performance SUV, one might expect a large V8 engine, but the vehicle is equipped with a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque. However, the performance may not meet expectations.
Typically, high-performance SUVs feature distinctive characteristics like a thrilling exhaust note, but this vehicle lacks that. Additionally, the eight-speed automatic transmission is not ideal.
Final Verdict
When news of the Ford Edge ST broke, there was significant excitement. However, after driving the vehicle for about a week, I believe Ford made a significant mistake by labeling this vehicle with the ST badge. To be frank, it is not a sporty performance SUV at all.
