Gasoline Prices in Kuwait: Report and Analysis
Tags:
Introduction
Recently, the topic of varying gasoline prices has sparked debate among citizens and expatriates in Kuwait. In response, the Kuwaiti government has announced its decision not to implement dual gasoline pricing, as this would contradict Article 29 of the Constitution and violate international standards.
Government Response
In response to a citizen's inquiry regarding gasoline prices, a constitutional source stated that the legal mechanism for supporting citizens in relation to fuel prices could be through indirect subsidies.
Despite a parliamentary warning about the possibility of raising gasoline prices, the government remains committed to market stability and has yet to set any new gasoline prices.
Current Status of Gasoline Prices
There have been no changes in gasoline prices in Kuwait since September 2016, as prices have not been adjusted to maintain market stability.
Although gasoline prices in Kuwait are among the lowest in the Gulf region, the demand for a tariff reduction cannot be met, as the international cost per liter remains higher than the pump price.
