Haval H6 Review: A Unique Chinese SUV Experience

Introduction
It's always exciting to test drive a new model from any car manufacturer, but it's even more thrilling when I get to experience an entirely new brand. Today, I'm taking a closer look at the Haval H6, a remarkable Chinese SUV. Let's dive into its specifications and features.
About Haval
Haval specializes in SUV manufacturing and operates under the Great Wall Motor Company in China. The H6 is the best-selling model in China, following a formula that allows it to compete with other manufacturers in the same segment by offering vehicles with designs and features comparable to its rivals, but at very competitive prices. In the UAE market, Haval prices start at AED 69,900 and can go up to AED 79,900 for fully equipped models like the one I am reviewing today. These prices are highly competitive in this crowded segment.
Exterior Design
The Haval H6 offers a straightforward and traditional design for a five-passenger SUV, featuring:
- Front lights with LED daytime running lights
- Fog lights that operate automatically
- 19-inch alloy wheels
At the rear, you will find:
- LED taillights
- Four genuine exhaust outlets, which is quite impressive
- Haval logo illumination projected on the ground when the door is opened
Interior Design
Upon entering the cabin, I was surprised by its modern design, which does not reflect its competitive pricing. The design follows a minimalist approach with:
- Very smooth lines
- Blue ambient lighting
This design cleverly integrates a touchscreen for the infotainment system within the cabin layout, positioned at an angle for ease of visibility and accessibility. Haval truly deserves commendation for this design.
Regarding material quality, it is very good compared to the vehicle's price, as it features:
- High-quality plastics
- Soft materials on the dashboard
- Leather on the steering wheel and doors
- Leather seats with electric adjustments for the driver's seat and memory function
There is excellent rear passenger space, complete with air conditioning vents and USB ports for charging mobile devices, along with a medium-sized trunk that can be expanded by folding the rear seats.
Features
First and foremost, the Haval H6 is equipped with numerous features, including:
- Keyless entry and ignition
- 9-inch infotainment system display
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Bluetooth mobile connectivity
However, it lacks a navigation system and support for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The vehicle is also equipped with a rear parking camera and sensors both front and rear, along with an automatic parking system.
Driving Experience
Before discussing the driving characteristics of the Haval H6, here are some key specifications:
- Toyota RAV4 Engine: 177 hp and 233 Nm
- Kia Sportage Engine: 184 hp and 237 Nm
- Honda CR-V Engine: 184 hp and 244 Nm
- Mazda CX-5 Engine: 188 hp and 251 Nm
- Hyundai Tucson Engine: 177 hp and 265 Nm
The Haval H6 comes equipped with a 2-liter turbo engine producing 188 hp and 340 Nm, making it the most powerful in its class. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, facilitating quicker and smoother gear shifts.
The H6 features three driving modes (Normal, Eco, and Sport) to enhance the driving experience.
Final Thoughts
Every time I test a vehicle from a Chinese manufacturer, I'm convinced that the Chinese automotive industry is on the rise. With the Haval H6, I feel that this brand will be among the first options to consider, especially if they maintain their economical pricing.
