Korean Automakers' Success
For a while now, Korean automakers have been excelling in the automotive industry. The outstanding brands include Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia. The entire group has been striving to deliver some of the best products across various categories. Over the years, the auto giant has refined its approach without making significant errors in any area.
2022 Red Dot Award Success
At the recently held 2022 Red Dot Award: Brand & Communication Design, hosted by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen, the group received significant recognition. Overall, the Hyundai Motor Group won an impressive eight design awards at the event, including:
- 2 'Best of the Best' awards
- 6 'Winner' honors
One of the first awards won by the group was the 'Best of the Best' award in the Fair Stands category.
Innovations at CES 2022
The Hyundai Motor’s 'CES 2022 Exhibition Booth' gained attention for its intriguing and futuristic 'Metamobility' concept. According to the Korean company, its advanced venture into robotics aims to unlock limitless mobility in both the real world and the metaverse. The brand will embark on this journey with an ecosystem termed “robotics-based Mobility of Things (MoT)”. The interactive exhibition booth invited visitors to experience this new and innovative way of life.
Mobility of Things Ecosystem
As part of its Mobility of Things ecosystem, Hyundai Motor Group unveiled:
- A quadruped robot by Boston Dynamics’ Spot
- A bipedal humanoid by Atlas TM
- The Plug & Drive (PnD) and Drive & Lift (DnL) modular platforms
Additionally, the Red Dot Award honored Hyundai Motor for its Songpa Showrooms in the 'Brand Stores' category. The 2,100 assembly clips used in the structure reflect the brand’s comprehensive process from manufacturing to vehicle sales.
Genesis Awards
The ceremony continued with awards for 'Retail Design' being awarded to Genesis Suji, Genesis Studio Anseong, and Genesis House New York. An art decor inspired by the GV60 EV also won an award for 'Spatial Communication', while the Genesis Connected Car Integrated Cockpit (ccIC) received an award for its user interface.
Genesis Facility Highlights
The Genesis Suji, a four-story facility, won the 'Best of the Best' award in the 'Brand Stores' category. This 4,991-square-meter facility includes:
- A showroom
- A service delivery platform
- A test-drive center, first of its kind in Korea
The Genesis Studio Anseong features a 663-square-meter showroom with a futuristic design, while the Genesis House New York showcases modern art installations alongside a contemporary Korean dining experience.
Genesis GV60 Concept
The focus of the Genesis GV60 concept was the innovative “Crystal Sphere”. This feature was highlighted by a custom double-sided dichroic film that captivated visitors with stunning iridescent reflections. This project was made possible through collaboration with a Seoul-based architecture firm.
Connected Car Integrated Cockpit
The marque’s Connected Car Integrated Cockpit design integrates the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and head-up display, creating a seamless panoramic display. It is recognized as the world's first integrated cockpit system, which links the contents of each system in the infotainment system, all navigated via a custom controller.
Kia's Award Recognition
Regarding Kia, the brand won an award for its Corporate Design Guides, known as the “Kia CI Guideline”. This guideline is instrumental in communicating the company's corporate identity to customers worldwide. Recently, Kia has been focusing on becoming a 'Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider', a direction that has been emphasized since the brand's revision last year.
